Vanick Digital Service Day 2017

02/06/2018 by Vanick Digital

It was that time again for our annual Vanick Service Day! At Vanick, we realize how truly blessed we are and work very hard to take one workday each year to give back as a group. For a second year, the Memphis and Nashville groups were able to contribute an entire day serving our community at Youth Villages.

Youth Villages is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to helping emotionally and behaviorally troubled children and their families live successfully. They help more than 22,000 children and families each year from more than 20 states and Washington, D. C. Their Evidentiary Family Restoration® approach involves intensive work with the child and family focusing on measuring outcomes, keeping children in the community whenever safely possible, and providing accountability to families and funders. The EFR approach produces lasting success for children with success rates twice that of traditional services at one-third the cost of traditional care.

The group spent the day with the children during their regularly scheduled physical education classes. They were able to engage with each group of children as they came in throughout the day. The children and the Vanick group had so much fun playing recreational games like volleyball, knockout, and the kid’s favorite game “spider ball.”  We also worked on activities that required team building.

One of the interesting aspects to Youth Village is that they have vocational programs like Food with Class.  This voluntary catering program teaches teens close to graduation valuable job skills for a possible career in the service industry.  We were fortunate enough to be served lunch and it was fantastic!

Our day ended with a tour of the campus, group homes, and a first-look at their brand new facility, Paula Prudhomme Wellness Center, a 4800 square food medical facility.  The new space includes space for doctor and psychiatrist visits.

Youth Villages offers many ways for individuals, families and groups to get involved in helping change the lives of youth and families in their various programs. By getting involved, volunteers provide new opportunities and additional social support to youth working to overcome their circumstances to live successful and productive lives.
